Subaru has announced that 2025 will be the last model year for the Legacy. The nameplate, which first appeared in 1989, has lived through seven generations, received numerous awards, and spun off the popular Outback crossover. Subaru will cease production at its Lafayette assembly plant during the 2025 model year. This is no reflection on the model itself; it is just further acknowledgment that the car-buying public has moved away from sedans and toward crossovers. Several other manufacturers have also ended their sedan model lines. This could be an excellent opportunity to get a great mid-size family sedan from Twin Falls Subaru before it is gone.
Sedans Still Have Their Place
Most vehicles sold at Twin Falls Subaru are crossovers, so we recognize their worth and versatility. However, many households only need one vehicle with cargo-hauling ability, while the second is mostly used for commuting and people-hauling. For that purpose, a sedan is still difficult to beat. Plenty of Technology and Safety
Inside, most Legacy models feature mid-size sedan room for five. The Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch touchscreen that is standard on most models, along with standard wireless Apple and Android phone integration, give the Legacy plenty of up-to-date in-cabin technology. You have a choice of eight different cloth or leather interior combinations, and the confidence of standard Eyesight driver assist technologies and numerous additional safety features. The Legacy is both a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and achieved an overall 5-star rating from the NHTSA, including 5-star ratings in frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests. This is all for a vehicle with a starting MSRP of $24,895, which is about the price of many compact-sized rivals—few of which even offer all-wheel drive, much less have it standard.
Sometimes, when purchasing a vehicle in its last year, there is a concern about parts availability in the future. However, the Legacy remains nearly mechanically identical to the very popular Outback, so parts will likely be in full supply well into the future.
