Subaru Motorsports Clinches Season Championship
Subaru and rally go together like spaghetti and meatballs. You almost can’t have one without the other. It should come as no surprise that Subaru Motorsports clinched its latest championship at the Ojibwe Forests Rally, marking the fourth consecutive championship for driver Brandon Semenuk and co-driver Keaton Williams. Fan favorite Travis Pastrana and his co-driver, Rhianon Gelsomino, also got a victory, taking second overall after some issues later in their race.
An Amazing Three-Day Event
The Ojibwe Forest Rally covers three days of wild competition, including an evening spectator event on Thursday at Soo Pass Ranch, followed by two days of all-out racing through Detroit Lakes, Itasca, and Park Rapids. Thursday night’s spectator stage was just an appetizer for the fans, as they witnessed some truly great racing on Friday and Saturday with both Subaru cars.
Nineteen Total Championships
This win makes 19 total national championships for Subaru Motorsports over the past 25 years, showcasing that Subaru is the brand to beat.
A Word from Brandon Semenuk
“Ojibwe is a really fun rally – a fast and tricky one – lots of jumps, and corners over jumps. [It was a] big job for me and probably a bigger job for Keaton, with how fast the notes are. We tried to minimize risk on this one with the goal being to get the points and wrap the championship,” Semenuk said in a post-race interview.
Friday Was Wild
Brandon Semenuk got out to a hot start on Friday morning with a stage win, but the Skoda Fabia RS driven by Connor Martell snatched the next two stages and built a bit of a lead over the Subaru WRX. However, by the end of the afternoon, Subaru was back on top with three out of four stage wins for Semenuk. The Skoda had a puncture, guaranteeing the lead for Subaru’s Brandon Semenuk and co-driver Keaton Williams.
Travis Dealt with His Own Issues
Pastrana and his co-driver had their own wild ride with a tire puncture of their own and a power steering system failing. But amazingly, Travis Pastrana soldiered on and was able to bring his Subaru home second overall. That’s some serious grit and tenacity.
Saturday Started Off Well…
Once Saturday came around, the Subaru boys were the cars to beat. However, scattered rain sought to dampen the mood a bit with some tough wet and sandy surfaces. Martell was back with his Skoda, slowly cutting into Semenuk’s lead. However, the Skoda had a crash, which allowed the Subaru to have less pressure—until a power steering failure of his own forced some adversity upon Semenuk. Thanks to his time advantage, once he crossed the finish line he had taken both the win at the rally as well as the 2025 ARA National Championship trophy.
