A Festival of Pure Fun

Subaru has become a mainstay at the Goodwood Festival, and for 2024, they debuted the “WRX: Project Midnight” and brought back the “Family Huckster,” a crowd favorite. The Project Midnight WRX features a turbocharged Boxer engine with 670 horsepower, an evolution of the 2021 teams championship-winning Subaru WRX in the Nitro Rallycross series. On the other hand, the Family Huckster is based on a 1983 GL Wagon, which also has a turbo Boxer motor with 862 horsepower and active aerodynamics. In 2023, Travis Pastrana took the wheel of the Family Huckster and was back along with Scott Speed, the former Formula 1 and current factory Subaru Nitro Rallycross driver.

What Scott Speed Thought

“It’s one of the most unique things I’ve ever driven,” said racing driver and legend Scott Speed.“I can’t emphasize enough how much this hill — or track — is such a special place. I’m proud of the effort from everybody. I really feel like the team did their best job this week. We executed well!”

Where To Next?

Subaru says The Project Midnight WRX was made specifically to be seen out and about at various events. While they haven’t said all of the places fans will be able to catch it yet, one event it will surely show up at is the Velocity Invitational at Sonoma Raceway from October 4th to the 6th. Subaru says to follow their social media accounts to see where else you’ll be able to find the Project Midnight car.

In Honor of Ken Block

The Family Huckster GL Wagon was originally created by the late great Ken Block for his Gymkhana 2022 edition. Gymkhana was a series of YouTube videos that featured custom rally cars doing wild tricks and amazing driving stunts, all done by Block. As a tribute to Mr. Block, Travis Pastrana drove the Family Huckster in 2023 at Goodwood to honor his late friend.
