Subaru is once again making national headlines as they celebrate the announcement as renowned car magazine, Car and Driver, has chosen to feature three Subaru Models on their annual Editors’ Choice list for 2024. The vehicles are the 2024 BRZ for best affordable sports car, the 2024 Crosstrek for best compact SUV, and finally, the 2024 Outback for best station wagon.

When talking about what made these three Subaru vehicles special, Car and Driver said, “The vehicles on this list have the equivalent of the highest grade-point averages, and they comprise approximately the top quarter of the market. These are the ones we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to our friends, families, and you. We’ve bought more than a few of these vehicles ourselves.”

Deciding on winners in each category is a complex process, as the editors at Car and Driver evaluate 500 vehicles in 36 different vehicle segments. This means they have to go through each and every vehicle, testing them exactly the same way, whether it’s performance testing, fuel economy runs, interior sound levels, cargo capacity, and overall visibility. Each editor goes through the list and begins to rank them until they are able to dial into the best of each automotive segment.

The Subaru BRZ is currently a four-time Car and Driver 10Best winner, including for 2024, and as a sports car the editors have said, “The BRZ is 80 percent the fun of a Porsche for a third of the price …” With its 2.4-liter BOXER 4-cylinder that produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque there is no doubting its ability to put a smile on any driver’s face. For 2024, all trim levels include the award-winning Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard, even on models equipped with a manual transmission. Three trim levels are offered, including Premium, Limited, and the brand new unique tS with upgraded Brembo brakes, STI-tuned Hitachi dampers front and rear, as well as special badging and trim featured on the interior and exterior.

There’s no argument that the Subaru Crosstrek doesn’t deserve to be considered the best compact SUV, as it’s been ranked by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as a Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ every year since it first hit the market in 2013. Like the BRZ, the Crosstrek also features Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist as standard, even with a base MSRP of just $25,195 and the ability to get up to 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. Two engines are available for the Crosstrek: the base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque.

As an original model to the Subaru nameplate behind the Impreza, the Outback debuted in 1994. It has been a staple of Subaru and its quest to bring affordable and usable all-wheel drive and BOXER performance to the masses. Like the Crosstrek, it, too, celebrates a rich history of being an IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ since 2010. And, like the previous cars on this list, it has Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard. The Outback offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance on all models except for the Wilderness trim, which takes that up a notch to 9.5 inches. Buyers have a choice of either a 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder that has 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer 4 that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.
