Subaru is one of the best automakers for listening to its customers. The Crosstrek sports 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which expands to 9.3 inches for the Wilderness trim. All-wheel drive comes standard, and Subaru equips X-Mode for better all-weather traction.

The base Crosstrek comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder is available that makes 182 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come paired with a continuously variable transmission. Subaru’s excellent symmetrical all-wheel drive comes standard.

Inside, the Crosstrek offers comfortable, spacious seating for five people. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but premium cloth and genuine leather are available. There’s great room in both rows, and cargo space is above average for the segment at 19.9 cubic feet, with the rear seats upright. Folding the seats down opens 54.7 cubic feet of space, and the Crosstrek’s wide rear opening makes loading and unloading gear a breeze.

A dual-seven-inch screen infotainment system comes standard, bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, HD radio, and more. Buyers also get four speakers, USB ports, and dual-zone climate controls. Higher trims add an 11.6-inch display with a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, more USB inputs, and a Harman Kardon stereo upgrade.

The 2024 Crosstrek earned a Top Safety Pick during the 2023 calendar year. The IIHS rated it “Good” in most categories, except for the new side-crash test, where it earned an “Acceptable” score. Standard safety tech includes forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, and more. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts and reverse collision warnings are available.
