The introduction of our new eco-friendly “Subaru x Re-S Upcycled Marché Bag” aims to keep your belongings secure while keeping excess material out of the landfill.

Creating and testing airbags is an essential part of the build of each and every Subaru. We don’t just want you driving our cars, we want you safe in them as well. Through our process of making sure you’re safely sitting behind the wheel, there can be a lot of leftover fabric, and we want to keep it from going to waste. Making use of our scraps of fabric, we have, through our combined efforts with Toyoda Gosei’s factory in Japan, creating a sustainable and durable “Marché Bag”.

The unusual material is a good fit for a reusable shopping bag as it demonstrates an excellent amount of durability. Additionally, it’s resistant to heat and water and will not deteriorate during short-term exposure. Fairly sized, it measures 550 mm (21.7 inches) tall, 340 mm (13.4 inches) wide, and 120 mm (4.7 inches) deep. Despite being able to fit a full-sized towel and a few other items, the bag can be neatly folded to fit inside your pocket. The fabric has a light blue shade and can be combined with either blue or red stripes on the handle, adding a touch of personalization. To add to the benefits of the sturdy carrier, there is even a patch of reflective material between the stripes, making it safer for users to go out at night.

The eco-friendly “Marché bag” is already available to purchase from the official Subaru Online Shop at a price of ¥2,750 ($20) each, including taxes. The Subaru-branded item is now proudly a part of Toyoda Gosei’s Re-S line of sustainable products. If you follow the news, you might recall seeing that Gosei’s factory also recently helped sportswear brand Asics make running shoes from airbag fabric. The possibilities of this company’s creativity are truly inspiring, and we are exultant to take part in their vision of creating new avenues for sustainability.
