As it’s the Subaru Love Promise of “Being More Than a Car Company®, Subaru represented so much more than vehicles at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show. The 2024 Subaru CrossTrek did make its debut, accompanied by a large digital screen showing stunning views of our National Parks, along with an interaction area in the Subaru booth itself, with rescue puppies available for adoption via the highly awarded Anderson Humane.

The 3rd generation Crosstrek is anticipated to arrive in our Twin Falls Subaru showroom by Winter 2023. As with previous models, the new Crosstrek is derived from the also-new Impreza, yet with greater ground clearance and greater off-pavement focus. The Crosstrek joins the Forester and Outback as the smallest of this trio of off-road capable machines.

The Crosstrek certainly fits in with its large hexagon grille, squinting LED headlights, and prominent round fog lights. Behind the face, you’ll find a broad-shouldered stance accented with bold fender cladding plus sturdy raised roof rails on all but the base trim. Unseen is the Crosstrek’s 10% stiffer body, thanks to new welding and more adhesives.

The base and Premium Crosstrek get the global 152 hp 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine. Exclusive to the U.S., the Sport and Limited trims are powered by the same 2.5-liter 4-cyl. boxer found in the Forester and Outback. The engine provides the same 182 horsepower but with a small bump to 178 lb-ft of torque. All Crosstreks come standard with the CVT automatic transmission.

When the pavement ends, the new model retains the current Crosstrek’s 8.7” ground clearance, hill start assist, and hill descent control. However, the X-Mode off-road driving mode has been enhanced with the dual-setting system currently found on the Forester and Outback Wilderness models. This means it now includes the Deep Snow/Mud Mode which allows just enough wheel spin to help prevent the Crosstrek from getting stuck when the ground is very soft and wet.

The interior has been enhanced with completely redesigned seats which provide greater support and look great as well, with color side bolsters on some trims. The Crosstrek joins the Outback by including the portrait-configured 11.6-inch SUBARU STARLINK® multimedia system on the Premium, Sport, and Limited Trims. These trims will also be equipped with the convenience of wireless connection for both Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

All 2024 Crosstreks come with the latest version of Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist system. Premium and higher trims are available with Blind-Spot Detection, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. These features integrate with the new Automatic Emergency Steering feature to add steering assist when sensors detect a potential collision at speeds under 50 mph.

Crosstrek’s exterior dimensions are nearly unchanged. As the smallest and lightest of Subaru’s off-road trio, the Crosstrek will be the most nimble in tight trails. While its wheelbase is just a fraction of an inch smaller than the Forester, its overall length is about half a foot shorter. It also has the lowest overall height even as its 8.7” ground clearance matches the other two models.

For additional space, the Forester increases passenger volume in all dimensions along with greater cargo space. Both the Forester and Outback have been praised for having a nearly ideal balance of off-pavement ability and on-pavement ride and comfort.
